WRONG MODEL CAUSED LFs LOSS
SNS, SILIGURI, 22 SEPT: The RSP, an important constituent of the ruling Left Front, has held a “wrong development model” responsible for the Front’s electoral debacle in the recently concluded Siliguri Municipal Corporation election and elsewhere in the state as well.
“Unless the Left Front draws lessons from the thrashing and reverses the capitalistic model of development, poll reverses would keep haunting the Front,” said the state PWD minister and senior RSP leader, Mr Kshiti Goswami. Echoing the view, the Darjeeling district leadership of the RSP said that the Left Front seemed to have derived no lesson from the Siliguri snub. According to Mr Goswami, the much-hyped development model has isolated the Left Front form the common people. “This applies to our defeat in Siliguri too,” he said. “It is difficult for the state government to venture on a paradigm shift regarding the model of development. The capitalistic model with emphasis on capital-intensive industrialization drive seems to have become a permanent feature of the country's economic policy. But we, as the Leftists, should look different from the rightist parties or configurations,” the state minister added. In a more scathing attack on the state government on the matter, the Darjeeling district RSP leadership said that the Leftist government seemed to have become an advocate for the capital-driven economy. “Having given a short-shrift to the time-tested tenets of Marxism-Leninism, the Left Front government has taken upon itself the role of apologists for the consumerist market economy,” said a senior district RSP leader, Mr Tapas Goswami. “And the most worrisome factor is that the state government keeps defending the economic model in the aftermath of the strings of poll debacles including that in Siliguri. It is rather side-stepping the paramount economic issue by blowing out of proportion secondary factors like nepotism and arrogance,” Mr Goswami commented.
