KALIMPONG NEWS .. Ajay Dahal arrested in Sikkim
KalimNews, Updated at 8.02 pm: Ajay Dahal President of United Gorkha Revolutionary Front (UGRF) was arrested in Gangtok today by Sikkim Police. Ajay Dahal was wanted by Darjeeling Police for murder and arms cases. Dahal was arrested with a country made revolver and three live cartridges. He had been lately threatening Bimal Gurung and leaders of GJMM through pamphlets. Previously he had threatened the then GNLF Councillors and leaders.
He had formed UGRF on 21st November 2004 in Kalimpong. Before than this he was the AGSU chief of Kalimpong chapter and later resigned it to join GNLF 'C' and after a brief period started another new party UGRF. Suddenly on 5th September 2006 he announced formation of United Gorkha Revolutionary Army from UGRF and went underground. At that time UGRF had their hideout in the forest of Santuk area near Algarah.
A supporter of GNLF Yohan Singh Lepcha was murdered by UGRA on 25th October 2006 on the allegation of being an informer of the Police. Later Dahal's accomplice Suk bdr Subba was arrested from one of his hideout by Kalimpong Police on 28th November 2006 for the murder and later freed on bail.
Darjeeing Police had arrested 10 members of UGRF in 2006 during the raids . Later Ajay moved from place to places and recently he had been to Sikkim and was contacting media from there. His chief accomplice and advisor Rudra Acharya is at large.
From Gangtok Prabin Khaling adds: Ajay Dahal, a former Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel was arrested by Sikkim police at Gangtok today afternoon . Having received an information by the Sikkim Police about a suspicious person roaming around in the South-West District Taxi Stand near Police Headquarters at Gangtok, Sikkim Police came into action at around 1:30 pm by sending a police team to verify the information. On apprehension a country made revolver and three cartridges were recovered from Dahal's luggage. He was later identified as UGRF president Ajay Dahal. He was arrested and a case under Arms Act 1959 is registered at Gangtok Sadar Police Station . Kalimpong Police was informed of the arrest in the evening and they are now in Gangtok for further investigation.
